DISSOCIATIVE DISORDERS

The Diagnostic Manual of the American Psychiatric Association gives the diagnostic criteria as:

  1.  The presence of two or more distinct identities or personality states (each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and self.)
  2. At least two of these identities or personality states recurrently take control of the person’s behavior.
  3. Inability to recall important personal information that is too extensive to be explained by ordinary forgetfulness.
  4. The disturbance is not due to the direct physiological effects of a substance (e.g., blackouts or chaotic behavior during Alcohol intoxication) or a general medical condition (e.g. complex partial seizures).  NOTE:  In children, the symptoms are not attributable to imaginary playmates or other fantasy play. The Reality of DID

Multiplicity does sound bizarre.  The existence of separate personality states or personalities within one person stretches our thought.  How can one person have adult and child, male and female personalities all rising from one individual?

If multiplicity sounds bizarre, let’s remember that it results from bizarre life experiences usually encountered at an early age.  Multiplicity occurs only when an individual goes through extreme emotional, sexual or physical abuse.  The abuse is more than the individual is able to handle emotionally and thus an alternate personality is formed which takes the abuse with the core person being amnesic to what happened.

Many Christians reject the reality of DID because they believe it is not specifically mentioned in the Bible.  They base their argument on the fact that Scripture is the only fully trustworthy source of information.  In reality, DID is biblical.  The Bible calls it brokenheartedness or brokenness of soul.  Jesus said one of the reasons He died on the cross was to heal the brokenhearted.

The Center Specializes in Dissociative Identity Disorders

At the Center, utilizing Jesus Christ who is the Wonderful Counselor, healing comes at a much accelerated pace when compared to secular counseling techniques.  The Lord Jesus Christ works in amazing ways to bring about healing of the soul for both the alter system and the core person.  Simple multiplicity (1-50 alter personalities) can be healed in about six months with weekly counseling sessions.

Dr. Roger Boehm specializes in D.I.D. and wrote a Ph.D. thesis on the subject of Complexity and Multiple Transmutation of Alter Personalities in Highly Complex Dissociative Identity Disorder (MPD).

If you are suffering from this disorder you are not alone.  Those who work with D.I.D. estimate that up to 18% of the population may be affected.  Let us help you and the alters to find healing through the Lord Jesus Christ, the Wonderful Counselor.
